California sagebrush. Artemisia californica is a dominant element of California’s coastal scrub, a plant community full of the ripe, pungent smell of this wonderfully ubiquitous shrub. This selection from the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is prostrate and wide-spreading to 6’ or more. Occasional pruning and a few deep summer waterings will suffice to counter its natural summer dormancy. Periodic hard pruning encourages a dense form. Hardy to 15F. California.
