Common buckwheat or California buckwheat. Small, rounded shrub growing to 3’ high with an equal spread. The leaves are needle-like, small and vary in color from dark green to gray. Cream to pink flowers bloom in a clustered inflorescence from May to October, eventually turning copper, then russet and persisting through winter. Plants provide pollen for bees and produce an abundance of seed for birds. Adaptable to many soil types, as well as to heat, wind, and drought. Useful in slope stabilization and restoration. California.
