Reminiscent of a large Salvia spathacea, this handsome subshrub grows to 6’ tall with large, furry, arrow-shaped leaves. Spikes of reddish-purple, sage-like blossoms appear most of the year in coastal California, though they are heaviest in early summer. Plants are strongly aromatic, smelling like an exotic flavor of Kool-Aid. Plant in full sun or part shade in reasonably well-drained soils, and provide occasional water once established. Hardy to 20F. Mexico.
