Leopoard lily. This bulbous perennial develops wide clumps of glossy green foliage that are topped in early summer by tall stalks (to 4’) of orange-red pendant lilies, each with its paper thin petals turning back to reveal a throat spotted with beguiling deep maroon markings. Best in moist, but well-drained soils in filtered shade with regular water, the leopard lily will die back to the ground after blooming, only to rise again the following summer to bewitch the gardener anew. Hardy to 0F. California, Southern Oregon.
