Catalina cherry. Dense evergreen shrub or tree growing to 50’ with a broad crown at maturity. Offers a handsome, well-groomed appearance but has much larger leaves than Prunus ilicifolia. Flowers and fruit are also larger, and leaves lack the prickly edges. The black, large-stoned cherries are edible and plum flavored. Best planted in dry soil with full sun or partial shade. Provides an excellent screen and can be pruned to a formal look. Once established, requires only occasional water. Hardy to 10F. Channel Islands, Baja California.
