Checkerbloom. We grow a low, spreading selection of this common native perennial with creeping rootstocks. Stems rise toward the tips to show bright lavender-pink flowers with purple veins in late spring and summer. Water regularly to maintain blooming through entire summer, otherwise it may go dormant, then reappear after the first rains. In our garden plants have formed rich evergreen mats to 6” high and 4’ across in both sun and shade. Seeds are attractive to birds and we have numerous seedlings appearing around the yard. One of the finest native perennials available in our opinion. Hardy to 15F. Oregon and California to Baja California.
